A catastrophic earthquake, measuring 6.8 in magnitude, has struck Morocco, resulting in the loss of over 2000 lives and leaving hundreds injured. This earthquake stands as one of the most powerful to hit the region in over a century, leaving entire towns and villages reduced to rubble and countless homes turned into graves.
The Earthquake’s Epicenter and Impact
The epicenter of this calamitous earthquake was pinpointed in the High Atlas Mountains, situated 71km (44 miles) southwest of Marrakesh, at a depth of 18.5km. The impact of the earthquake was far-reaching, spanning across multiple provinces and municipalities, including al-Haouz, Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, Azilal, Chichaoua, and Taroudant. The need for immediate relief and support cannot be overstated.
Partnering for Prompt Action: Collaborating with Marrakech Mansions
Understanding the urgency and gravity of the situation, Hayaat Welfare Trust swiftly established a crucial partnership with Marrakech Mansions, pooling resources and expertise. This collaboration has brought together a dedicated team on the ground, ready to provide urgent relief and support to the affected communities. In times of such dire need, every action taken makes a significant difference, and working collaboratively amplifies our impact.
Immediate Actions and Impact
We meticulously packed a van with a diverse array of crucial supplies. This encompassing relief package comprised essential items such as food, water, tents, clothes, shoes, hygiene products, and more. Our team worked tirelessly to ensure the van was laden with these life-saving provisions, meeting the urgent needs of the affected communities. The estimated expenditure for these vital supplies amounted to approximately £3500, underscoring our immediate and targeted response to extend assistance and support during this crisis
Efforts were promptly initiated, with the purchase of 150 winter coats catering to both adults and children.
We initiated a significant procurement effort, acquiring essential items valued at £1800 to support those impacted by the recent earthquake. This compassionate initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to providing immediate relief to the affected communities.
The procured items encompassed vital supplies such as food, clean water, hygiene products, clothing, footwear, and other essential necessities. Our dedicated team worked diligently to organize and distribute these supplies in two villages heavily affected by the earthquake. We ensured that the provisions reached those in urgent need, striving to alleviate their suffering and provide a glimmer of hope during these challenging times.
In addition to these crucial supplies, we also distributed 20 tents to offer temporary shelter to those whose homes were devastated by the earthquake. These tents serve as a source of protection and comfort, providing immediate relief to families grappling with displacement and uncertainty

Together, they worked tirelessly to acquire more essentials for the victims.
